About CBAPU Bardia

Empowering communities to protect wildlife since our inception

Our Mission

To protect wildlife and natural habitats through community engagement, education, and sustainable practices while supporting local livelihoods.

Our Vision

A harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife, where conservation efforts empower communities and preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Our Approach

Community-based conservation that integrates local knowledge, scientific research, and sustainable development to create lasting positive impact.

Our Community

Working hand-in-hand with local communities, volunteers, researchers, and conservation partners to achieve our shared conservation goals.

Our Story

Community Based Anti Poaching Unit (CBAPU) Bardia was established to address the critical challenges facing wildlife conservation in the Bardia region of Nepal. Located adjacent to Bardia National Park, our organization emerged from the recognition that effective conservation requires active community participation and sustainable approaches.

Over the years, we have developed comprehensive programs that address multiple aspects of conservation - from anti-poaching patrols to human-wildlife conflict mitigation, from supporting medicinal herb cultivation to facilitating wildlife research. Our work is built on the principle that when local communities benefit from conservation efforts, they become the strongest advocates for protecting wildlife.

Today, CBAPU Bardia stands as a model for community-based conservation, bringing together local expertise, scientific research, and international collaboration to create lasting positive change for both wildlife and people.

Our Souvenirs: Conservation in Every Craft

Every purchase in this section directly supports our volunteer patrols and provides alternative livelihoods for the local communities living on the edge of the wild. By choosing a CBAPU souvenir, you are helping us keep the forests of Bardia safe.

How to Order

Currently, our souvenirs are available at our Visitor Center in Thakurdwara. For international shipping inquiries or bulk orders for conservation organizations, please contact us.

Why Your Purchase Matters

Poaching is often driven by a lack of economic opportunity. By supporting our souvenir program, you help transition community members from forest exploitation to forest protection, ensuring that wildlife like the Asian Elephant and Bengal Tiger continue to thrive in our corridors.

What We Do

Anti-Poaching Operations

We conduct regular community-based patrols to prevent poaching and illegal wildlife trade, working closely with national park authorities and local communities to protect endangered species.

Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation

We implement practical solutions to reduce conflicts between humans and wildlife, including early warning systems, protective measures, and compensation mechanisms for affected communities.

Medicinal Herb Cultivation

Supporting local communities in growing medicinal herbs provides sustainable livelihoods while reducing pressure on wild plant populations in protected areas.

Research & Education

We facilitate research opportunities for national and international students, host awareness programs, and provide volunteer opportunities for those passionate about conservation.
